self oscillate - lost tapes

The music on this cd is a bit different to my first album it was very funny for me to listen to all the old dat tapes and i discovered tracks which i've totally forgotten for years. but after listening to them, it all came back into my mind. here is the tracklisting with some notes for you:

01 : cycle : play

the track was built around some tr-808 patterns. nothing much to say about it. it is one of the newer tracks on this cd. i love the sound of an 808, for me the 808 is still the sexiest analogue drumcomputer ever.

02 : bassjunx

bassjunx was influenced by some miami bass music with it's ultralow basslines. the bass is played on a korg mono/poly, by the way. be careful when you use subwoofers :-)

03 : poke

an old track, it must have been that year when i discovered a deep love for analogue gear, as you can hear. lots of moog prodigy here.

04 : make yourself heard : play

credits for the vocals must go to evelyn mueller-nalbach.

05 : fader : play

dark dark dark, but also tricky percussion programming. the newest track on this cd.

06 : griswold : play

the name was influenced by the computergame 'diablo', which was my favourite game when i recorded this track. it was also my first experiment with granular synthesis (listen to the drums).

07 : metalpick : play

i remember that it was hard to obtain the metallic transients. i can only guess that this was finally done with an ms20.

08 : drift

an experimental ambient track, based on a two-handed melody which drifts in time, space and relation.

09 : vidcap : play

one of my first experiments with digital clipping. the track was originally made for a raytraced videoclip, which sadly never was finished. this track is the only thing which is left over from this video project.

10 : vril

today i'd say it was pure vintage korg fetishism :-)
you can hear a lot of ms20/sq10 on this one. i'm still in deep love with my old korgs, they always give me a good time.

11 : livingroom upstairs

a very old track, one of the first i've ever recorded on dat, i remember that i liked to listen to this one on the stereo of my parents in their living room. my studio was in the cellar, thats why it is called "livingroom upstairs". you can hear a vintage roland vocoder (svc-350) in this track. it was one of my biggest mistakes to sell this vocoder two years later. now these are really hard to get.

12 : trap

the only track in which i've used a simmonds sds-9 drumcomputer. i sold it later because it was unreliable, but it really had an exceptional sound.

.....Ingo (self oscillate).
